Los Rios is one of the 16 regions in Chile, located in the southern part of the country and bordered by the Pacific Ocean. The region has an interesting history that dates back to 1553 when Pedro de Valdivia founded Valdivia at the mouth of Valdivia River - making it one of Chile's oldest cities. Later on in 1645, Chiloe was declared an independent kingdom under King Garcia Hurtado de Mendoza.
