Visit O'Higgins


The O'Higgins Region, located in the south-central portion of Chile, is named after Bernardo O'Higgins who was a leader in Chile's struggle for independence from Spain. The region encompasses a wide range of landscapes and climates, making it a great destination for tourists looking for activities like skiing, fishing and hiking. In addition to its natural beauty there are also many attractions and historical sites to explore.

One popular tourist spot is the Ritoque Natural Sanctuary on the central coast which offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Another great spot is El Yeso Reservoir where visitors can rent boats or take advantage of several watersports that are available there.

An interesting historical fact about O'Higgins is that it was here that Bernardo O'Higgins declared Chile as an independent nation on February 12th 1818 and declared himself Supreme Director of Chile. This event marked Chile's independence from Spain and stands as one of its most defining moments in history.
