The Forbidden City, located in the heart of Beijing, is a testament to China’s rich history and architectural grandeur. This UNESCO World Heritage site, spanning over 180 acres, was the imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Its name, “Forbidden City,” stems from the idea that no one could enter or leave the palace without the emperor’s permission.

Visitors to the Forbidden City are greeted by the Meridian Gate, the largest and most magnificent of the city’s gates. The Palace Museum, located within the city, houses an extensive collection of artwork and artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Hall of Supreme Harmony, the largest hall in the Forbidden City, is another must-see, known for its impressive architecture and historical significance.
