Discover Taiyuan

2.9 million

Taiyuan is the capital and largest city of China's Shanxi province, located in the country's north-central area. Home to over 4 million people and a rich history stretching back thousands of years, Taiyuan offers visitors a wealth of attractions for exploring. From its ancient city walls to its many temples, parks and monuments, visitors can easily find plenty to do in this bustling Chinese metropolis.

Two must-see attractions are the Jinci Temple complex--a sprawling set of buildings that pay homage to an influential royal advisor from centuries ago--and the City Wall Park, where visitors can take in ancient architecture while also enjoying recreational activities at one of Taiyuan's busiest green spaces. Otherwise, no trip would be complete without sampling some local delicacies like Roujiamo (a savory treat made with minced pork) or Yangmei cake (made with dried fruit). All these make Taiyuan a great destination for travelers who want to explore China's history as well as its delicious cuisine.
