The city of Kunming is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Yunnan. Known as the "City of Eternal Spring" due to its mild climate and abundance of plants, tourists often visit here to explore its ornate temples, bustling night markets and beautiful nearby lakes. Further north lies Lijiang Ancient Town where travelers can take a step back in time to explore ancient cobbled streets lined with traditional tea houses and picturesque residential courtyards.
For history lovers, Yunnan has much to offer; it is home to several archaeological sites dating back over 3,000 years ago when ancient societies inhabited this region. In addition, during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) Yunnan was an independent kingdom called Dian which was on friendly terms with China's Han Dynasty at the time making it an important strategic point between eastern and western civilizations.
