This stunning colonial city boasts a beautiful old town full of colorful buildings, lively plazas, and cobblestone streets. Tourists can also explore fortified walls that date back to colonial times and visit Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fortress built by the Spanish in 1536.

In terms of history, The Atlantico was one of the original seven departments formed within Gran Colombia after independence from Spain in 1810.
