The Casanare Department of Colombia is a scenic and dynamic region located in the eastern part of the country. It is home to some of Colombia's most beautiful landscapes, with lush rainforests, breathtaking mountain ranges, and expansive savannas creating an awe-inspiring backdrop. Tourists can explore several wildlife preserves and national parks here as well as take advantage of outdoor activities like rafting, fishing, and horseback riding.

Two popular tourist destinations in Casanare are La Primavera National Park and Yopal Cathedral. At La Primavera National Park you can explore over 4500 hectares of tropical dry forest while taking part in bird watching or even camping trips. The Yopal Cathedral meanwhile is a neo-Gothic structure built in 1932 that stands out among the city's many historic buildings.

Casanare Department also has a rich history worth exploring; it was first populated by indigenous communities before being colonised by Spanish settlers during the 16th century missionaries who founded what is now known as Villavicencio City. Today you can still find traces from this past all over the region such as ruins at El Penon de los Guacaros archaeological site near Aguazul Lake which date back more than 2000 years to pre-Colombian times!
