The Guainia Department of Colombia is located in the southeastern part of the country and is one of its 32 departments. It borders Venezuela to the east and Brazil to the south. This region encompasses a large variety of climates, from tropical rainforests and rivers to highland mountains and savannahs. The population is mainly composed of indigenous people such as the Piaroa, Ingari, Tariano, Barasano, Curripaco, Desano y Macuya communities.

For tourists wanting to explore this unique area there are plenty of activities available such as visiting Estrecho de La Mona Natural Reserve or taking a boat tour along Rio Negro or Tres Esquinas River where you can see stunning views on all sides. Also worth seeing is Yaveri National Park which contains many ancient petroglyphs left by pre-Colombian inhabitants showcasing local culture and history from long ago.

A particularly interesting historical fact about this department is that it was once part of Gran Colombia before it divided into separate countries in 1830 - making it one of the few places in South America where Simon Bolivar's vision remains intact today!
