Tolima is one of the 32 departments of Colombia, located in the center-west of the country. It is home to some of Colombia's most impressive natural wonders, such as Nevado del Ruiz - an active volcano - and the stunning Laguna de la Cocha. Away from its majestic landscapes, you can explore its colourful local culture and colonial heritage in charming towns like Ibague or Honda.

A must-see attraction is Salento - a traditional town nestled in a valley amid rolling hillsides covered with coffee plantations. Take a ride on one of Colombia's famous jeeps known as 'Willys' to admire this beautiful scenery before tasting some delicious regional cuisine at one of Salento's restaurants. Another great spot to visit is the Valle de Cocora, an enchanting green valley where you will find wax palms - Colombia's national tree - stretching up towards the sky.

Tolima carries a rich historical legacy that dates back some 6000 years ago when it was populated by indigenous tribes. Over more recent centuries, it was also home to several battles fought during colonial times and even during World War II when military bases were established there due to its strategic location between two cities (Bogota and Cali).
