Vichada is a department located in the northeast region of Colombia. It is the second least populated region in the country due to its remote location and harsh climate. About 90% of Vichada's population resides in small towns along the Orinoco River, making it a largely rural area with much to explore.

Popular tourist attractions include exploring Los Llanos de la Macarena, an expansive grassland home to many endangered species, and visiting El Cocuy National Park, which features mountain peaks over 4500m high as well as biking trails and cascading waterfalls.

A fascinating historical fact about Vichada is that it was once part of Venezuela until 1908 when President Rafael Reyes changed the border between both countries after years of disputes. As well as being an important cultural boundary today, this makes for a great marker along any journey through Vichada!
