Visit Grande Comore

The Grande Comore, also known as Ngazidja, is the largest island in the Union of the Comoros and an important tourist destination. Home to lush forests, white sand beaches, and exotic wildlife, it's no wonder why it attracts so many visitors each year. Popular tourist attractions on Grande Comore include Mount Karthala Volcano National Park and Moheli Marine Park. These parks provide great opportunities for both sightseeing and outdoor activities like snorkeling and kayaking.

The island is rich in history as well. Before it was colonized by the French in 1843, Ngazidja was ruled by a Sultan from its capital Moroni since 1515. During this period Grand Comore developed into an important trading center due to its strategic location between Africa and India. In 1975 it became part of an independent Union of the Comoros with three other islands: Anjouan (Ndzouani), Moheli (Mwali) & Mayotte (Maiori).
