Visit Lékoumou

The Lekoumou region of the Republic of the Congo lies in the south-east of the country, bordered by Plateaux to the north, Pool to the west and Brazzaville to the east. Once known as a French colonial outpost, today this region is one of great biodiversity. It is home to rainforests filled with wildlife and several endangered species such as forest elephants and chimpanzees.

For those looking for a unique vacation destination, Lekoumou offers something special. There are two national parks located here: Moukalaba-Doudou National Park in Diosso and Conkouati-Douli National Park in Ewo. Both offer visitors spectacular views of nature with plenty of opportunities for hiking, bird watching, fishing and swimming.

History buffs will appreciate this province's rich past too - it was once an important trading centre during pre-colonial times when goods from Africa were exported to Europe via Cameroon's Douala port. Later during French colonization from 1883 until 1960 it served as an administrative capital for many years until independence was declared in 1960.
