The Pool of the Republic of Congo, also known as Pool Region, is a region located in south-central part of the country. It is home to lush rainforests and river systems that make it ideal for outdoor activities and exploration. While there are many tourist attractions, two popular destinations are Diosso Waterfalls and Lesio-Louna Wildlife Reserve. The falls cascade over limestone cliffs into a quiet pool, providing an amazing view for visitors. The wildlife reserve is home to African Elephants, hippos, chimpanzees, monkeys and more that can be observed in their natural habitats.
A fun piece of history from Pool Region involves its former ruler King Makoko II who was driven out by French troops in 1915 during World War I. His residence -known as Makoko Palace- still stands today as a reminder of his rule over the area and serves as a tourist attraction where visitors can learn about Congolese culture and history.
