Guanacaste is a province located in the northwestern region of Costa Rica. It is renowned for its beautiful beaches, waving palm trees and rich biodiversity, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.

Popular attractions include Santa Rosa National Park, which features spectacular hiking trails and plenty of wildlife. Playa Tamarindo is another well-known beach with beautiful white sand; visitors can take part in water sports such as surfing, kayaking, and snorkeling. The vibrant city of Liberia offers markets to explore and great restaurants to sample some local cuisine.

Guanacaste also has a rich history; the province was named after an endemic species of tree called guanacaste that was used by Native Americans as a source of food and shelter. In 1824 Guanacaste was annexed from Nicaragua to become part of Costa Rica - known today as "the Annexation Day" - making it one of the most important milestones in Costa Rican history!
