Visit Nicosia District

The Nicosia District of Cyprus is the largest district in the country and serves as its capital city. It's a vibrant, bustling area with a unique blend of ancient history and modern culture. Popular tourist attractions include Kyrenia Castle, an impressive fortification dating back to the Byzantine era; Buyuk Han, a caravanserai built in 1572; and Laiki Yitonia, a traditional neighbourhood filled with winding cobbled streets and charming old-world architecture. History buffs will appreciate the many museums on offer such as The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre or The Cyprus Museum which houses centuries worth of artifacts from the island's varied past. It is also home to one of Europe's last divided cities - Nicosia lies between two distinct halves with the Turkish-Cypriot controlled north and Greek-Cypriot controlled south separated by a United Nations Buffer Zone since 1974.
