The Church of Our Lady before Tyn is a stunning Gothic church located in the heart of Prague. It’s one of the most remarkable and admired monuments in the city, especially due to its two iconic towers that stand out against the surrounding skyline. The building, which was constructed back in 1365, has undergone several modifications during its long history, making it a unique and amazing work of art. The interior boasts incredible ornately decorated ceilings and walls with beautiful sculptures as well as Baroque-style altars that are also worth admiring. When visiting this church, make sure to marvel at the spectacular portal entrance with its intricate statues, carvings and stained glass windows. Also take time to appreciate all of its treasures such as an impressive chandelier that hangs from the ceiling or gaze up at one of Europe’s oldest astronomical clocks located on top of one tower - definitely a sight not to miss!

Plan your visit

  1. Arrive early, as the church is often crowded with tourists and those attending services.
  2. Be sure to visit the astronomical clock located on the south wall of the church’s towers for a stunning view of its intricate carvings and detail work.
  3. Wear comfortable shoes as there are lots of steps to climb in order to enjoy beautiful city views from atop both towers.
  4. Dress modestly when visiting during religious services - sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts are preferred over shorts or tank tops for entry into Church of Our Lady before Tyn.
  5. Take plenty of pictures! The architecture here is one-of-a-kind and worth capturing for a lifetime memory!
