Staroměstské nám. 1, 110 00 Josefov, Czechia

The Prague Astronomical Clock, also known as Orloj, is a stunning medieval timepiece located in the heart of Prague, Czech Republic. Installed in 1410, it is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still in operation. The clock is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town City Hall in the Old Town Square and is a significant symbol of Prague’s rich history.

Visitors to the clock can witness the hourly show of the “Walk of the Apostles”, where figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures, including a skeleton representing Death, parade in procession. In addition, one can also climb up to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower for a panoramic view of the beautiful city of Prague.

Plan your visit

Planning ahead for a visit to the Prague Astronomical Clock is key to making the most of your experience. Here are some tips & tricks: 1. Make sure you plan enough time for your visit - it can take up to an hour or two just to view the clock and take some pictures! 2. Research about the different events and times of day when it’s best to see the clock in action - there are different shows throughout each day, so make sure you don’t miss out. 3. Know that entry tickets must be purchased online in advance due to limited capacity restrictions; check websites like Tripadvisor for details on how and where these tickets can be bought before your trip. 4. Wear comfortable shoes as you will likely have some walking around when visiting, including taking stairs up into Old Town Square where the clock is located - a great place for photos & selfies! 5. Be aware that there may be large crowds lining up either side of Old Town Square at peak times while waiting to view & photograph this iconic tourist attraction; arrive well ahead of time if possible!
