Garden ~ 2 hours

Øster Voldgade 4A, 1350 København, Denmark

The King’s Garden, also known as Rosenborg Castle Gardens, is a historic and enchanting green space located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. Established in the early 17th century by King Christian IV, it is the country’s oldest royal garden, attracting millions of visitors annually. The garden is beautifully manicured, featuring a symmetrical Renaissance garden layout with intricate flower beds, hedges, and tree-lined pathways, offering a serene escape from the bustling city.

Among the garden’s main attractions is the majestic Rosenborg Castle, a stunning example of Christian IV’s many architectural projects. The castle houses the Danish crown jewels and royal regalia, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Another highlight is the Hercules Pavilion, a charming structure that offers a picturesque view of the garden. The King’s Garden is also home to several remarkable statues and monuments, including the famous statue of Hans Christian Andersen, making it a cultural treasure trove.

Plan your visit

  1. Dress appropriately - the King’s Garden is a popular tourist spot and can get quite busy, so it’s best to wear something comfortable but not too revealing.
  2. Take advantage of public transportation - Copenhagen is well-connected by its efficient transportation system, and taking a train or bus into the city is easy and cost-effective.
  3. Avoid peak hours - if possible, visit the garden during off peak hours as there are usually fewer crowds then and more room to enjoy nature’s beauty undisturbed.
  4. Bring a picnic basket - The King’s Garden has plenty of green open spaces for picnicking so feel free to bring your own lunch or snacks (just remember not to leave any trash behind).
  5. Check out special events - throughout the year there are special events like concerts, theatre performances, guided tours etc., be sure to check them out if you’re interested!
