It is bordered by Santiago Rodriguez and Monte Cristi provinces to the North, La Vega and Maria Trinidad Sanchez provinces to the East, El Seibo province to the South, and Duarte and San Juan provinces to the West. The Cibao Sur region is best known for its lush countryside filled with mountains, rivers, lakes, valleys and beaches that offer stunning views. In terms of historical significance, Cibao Sur played an important role in Dominican history as it was home to Pedro Santana - a prominent figure during Santo Domingo's first war for independence from Spain (1844).
