Visit Monte Plata Province


Monte Plata is a province located in the Dominican Republic, in the south-eastern region of the country. It is an area filled with lush vegetation and a variety of wildlife. Monte Plata is home to some beautiful beaches, such as La Redonda, Rosa Marina, and Caleton Beach; each offering amazing scenery and ideal locations for sunbathing and swimming. In terms of history, Monte Plata was founded by Spanish conquistador Diego Velazquez de Cuellar in 1533. To this day it remains one of the oldest settlements in the Dominican Republic and continues to be an important part of its culture and heritage. One must-see attraction is the Church of Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia which was built by Diego Velazquez himself during his time here as Governor General.
