Visit Ozama

The Ozama River is a major tourist attraction in the Dominican Republic, originating from the Cordillera Central mountain range and running through the capital city of Santo Domingo. It is known for its scenic beauty, as well as its historical significance: it was an important site during colonial times and was also a critical battlefield in the Dominican War of Independence.

Visitors to this area should definitely check out Fortaleza Ozama, a 16th century fortress situated along the banks of the river. Here one can explore Juan de Almeyda's palace with its beautiful balconies and grand entrance hall. Other notable spots include Alcazar de Colon and Parque Colon, where you can learn more about Columbus' first voyage to America in 1492.

If you're looking for something more active, take advantage of all that nature has to offer here by going fishing or boating downriver. There are also plenty of hiking trails and bird-watching sites where visitors can observe different species living around this unique ecosystem. No matter how you choose to explore it, visiting the Ozama River will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience!
