Volcano < 1 hour

Rano Raraku is a volcanic crater located in Hanga Roa, the main city of Easter Island, Chile. Known as the quarry of the island’s iconic moai statues, this site is an essential part of the Easter Island’s rich historical and cultural heritage. The crater and surrounding area are dotted with numerous partially-finished moai, providing a unique insight into the methods and processes used by the ancient Rapa Nui people to create these monumental figures.

While visiting Rano Raraku, one must not miss the opportunity to see “El Gigante,” the largest moai ever carved, which is still embedded in the rock face of the quarry. Another noteworthy sight is the “Tukuturi,” an unusual kneeling moai, which is quite distinct from the other upright statues on the island. These sights offer an unparalleled glimpse into the island’s intriguing past.
