Visit Santa Elena

Santa Elena is one of the 24 provinces that make up Ecuador. Located on the southwest coast of the country, it is known for its stunning beaches and unique biodiversity. Along its coastline are many popular tourist sites including Portoviejo City, renowned for its colonial buildings and churches, as well as Salango Island where visitors can observe a variety of sea life. Additionally, tourists can explore Machalilla National Park which has numerous ecotourism activities such as whale watching and bird watching.

Historically, Santa Elena was an important area during Inca times due to its agricultural production potential; moreover, it was also an area used by pirates to shelter their ships before raiding coastal towns in the region. Today it is known for being a major shipping port with some of Ecuador's main exports passing through annually.
