Visit Aswan Governorate


The Aswan Governorate in Egypt is a city with a long and rich history, originally inhabited by the Ancient Egyptians over 4500 years ago. Located in the south of Egypt, it is known for its ancient monuments such as the Philae temple, and its stunning Nubian villages along the Nile river which are surrounded by picturesque desert landscape. It's also famous for its granite quarries which can be explored on a guided tour.

Aswan has plenty of activities to offer such as sightseeing boat rides on the Nile, visiting local markets to buy traditional Nubian handicrafts or trying some delicious Egyptian cuisine. Visitors should also make sure to visit one of Aswan's renowned monuments like Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan's northern quarries and St. Simeon's Monastery near Kalabsha.

History buffs may find it interesting that Aswan was once an important trading post during Ancient Egypt's Middle Kingdom period where goods were transferred between Upper and Lower Egypt through the Nile river!
