Visit Beheira Governorate

Beheira Governorate is located in the northern part of Egypt, bordered by the Nile Delta and the Mediterranean Sea. It covers an area of 10,284 km2 and has a population of over 5 million people. The governorate's capital is Damanhur, which was founded in 1890.

Beheira's tourist attractions include historic sites such as Tell El Amarna, home to many ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to the 18th Dynasty; Lake Maryut, one of Egypt's largest coastal lakes; and Rosetta (Rasheed), where French troops first landed during Napoleon's campaign in 1798. There are also plenty of small fishing villages to explore along the coast for a taste of traditional life in Beheira.

An interesting historical fact about Beheira Governorate is that it was where some of Egypt's earliest human settlements were discovered at Wadi Al-Jarf - an archaeological site located along the Red Sea coast that dates back to 4500 BC.
