The Valley of the Kings, also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings, is a valley in Egypt where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, rock-cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom.
Plan your visit
- Wear light clothing suitable for the hot and dry climate, as well as a hat to protect your head from the sun.
- Bring plenty of water with you to stay hydrated throughout your visit.
- Respect all archaeological sites and do not touch any artifacts or carvings unless explicitly instructed to do so by an official guide or staff member.
- Be aware that flash photography is prohibited inside some tombs, so avoid using cameras in dark chambers and be mindful of other visitors around you who may want more privacy while viewing gravesites or decorations on the walls of tombs.
- Look out for ancient hieroglyphs which are scattered throughout many of the tombs - they can provide interesting information about Egyptian history!
