Visit North Sinai Governorate


North Sinai Governorate is a province of Egypt located in the northeastern corner of the country. It borders the Mediterranean Sea, and shares borders with Israel, Gaza and Jordan. The region is a popular tourist destination for its stunning beaches and archaeological sites, such as St. Catherine's Monastery - the world's oldest working Christian monastery - and Wadi El-Arish - home to several ancient Egyptian temples.

The city of El Arish is known for its vibrant marketplaces filled with colorful fabrics, jewelry and spices from nearby countries like Sudan. Visitors can also visit nearby Ras Mohammed National Park which offers some of Egypt's most breathtaking coastline scenery along with plenty of opportunities for watersports such as snorkeling or diving excursions.

Additionally, North Sinai Governorate is home to many fascinating historical sites including several ruins dating back to pre-dynastic times that provide an insight into thousands of years worth of history in Egypt. One particular interesting event includes Ibn Saud raiding North Sinai in 1916 during WWI in order to gain control over Suez Canal Zone from Britain-Egyptian protectorate forces.
