The La Union Department of El Salvador is located on the southeast coast of the country, and is home to some stunningly beautiful beaches. In addition to its incredible shoreline, there are three volcanoes - San Marcelino, Conchagua and Zacatecoluca - that provide breathtaking views.

One popular tourist attraction in the area is El Salvador's Black Sand Beach. Located in Las Chinamas, this beach boasts clear blue waters and soft black sand for visitors to enjoy. Alternatively, visitors can explore the ruins of Tazumal, a Mayan archaeological site with structures built between 300 BC to 900 AD.

Another interesting fact about La Union is that it was part of Mexico until 1822 when El Salvador declared independence from Spain; it then became part of the United Provinces of Central America before becoming part of El Salvador in 1839. Today La Union offers an array culture-rich experiences for travelers looking to experience traditional Central American life.
