The Morazan Department of El Salvador is located in the eastern part of the country and its capital is San Francisco Gotera. It borders Honduras to the north and to the east, Chalatenango to the west, and Usulutan and San Miguel to the south. This region is known for its mountainous terrain, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking or camping.

One popular tourist destination in Morazan Department is El Pital National Park which offers a variety of activities such as bird watching, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camping. Additionally, visitors can explore archaeological sites at Joya de Ceren Archaeological Site which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993 because of its well-preserved Pre-Hispanic farming village from 600 AD.

An interesting historical fact about Morazan Department is that during El Salvador's civil war (1980-1992), it was one of the five departments that were under rebel control by Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN). As a result many refugees sought refuge here due to violence related with human rights violation committed by both sides during this period
