The San Miguel Department of El Salvador is located in the Eastern part of the country and is a popular destination for visitors. A major city in the region, San Miguel, is known for its large plaza and local markets. It's also home to two impressive colonial churches - La Ermita de Guadalupe and Iglesia de Santiago Apostol.

The department offers stunning landscapes, from towering volcanoes to lush rainforests, allowing for plenty of outdoor activities including mountain biking and hiking. There are also many rivers in which visitors can go swimming, kayaking or rafting. For beachgoers, there are plenty of beaches on the Pacific Coast with white sands and crystal clear waters that make great spots for sunbathing or surfing.

San Miguel has a long history dating back before Spanish colonial times when it was inhabited by indigenous people such as the Niquiran people who left behind artifacts that can be seen today at sites like Joya de Ceren Archaeological Site - a UNESCO World Heritage site declared in 1993 - which provides insight into rural life during pre-Columbian times.
