Visit Valga County


Valga County is located in Southern Estonia, near the border with Latvia. It is a picturesque county made up of rolling hills and forests, as well as small towns and villages. It has been inhabited since pre-historic times and many archaeological sites have been discovered in the county.

Tourists visiting Valga County can explore its rugged landscape on foot or by bike - there are several trails available to choose from. Alternatively, visitors can take a boat trip down the Emajogi River or visit one of its many historical churches, such as St John's Church in Valka which was built in 1813.

The area also boasts some interesting historical facts - it was here that Napolean's troops led their last battle against the Russian army during the War of 1812. Additionally, Valga County was occupied by Nazi forces during World War II and is home to one of Europe's largest Soviet war memorials at Toravere.
