Visit Somali Region


The Somali Region of Ethiopia, also known as the Ogaden region, is an area full of vast plains and rugged mountains. It covers nearly one-third of Ethiopia's landmass and is located in the eastern part of the country. It has a predominantly dry climate with average temperatures ranging between 28 to 32degC (82-90degF).

Tourist attractions in the Somali Region include Lake Abbe, which is home to over 900 species of birds and wildlife; Fik National Park, which has a variety of unique animals such as wildcats, baboons, hippos and lizards; and Degehabur Junction where you can take picturesque views from the top.

Historically speaking, this region was once home to ancient civilizations like Aksumite kingdom that flourished from 4th century BC until 10th century AD. During this period it became an important trading center linking India with Arabia across sea routes on both sides of Somalia peninsula making it an integral part in connecting East Africa with world trade networks.
