Visit Pohnpei

The Pohnpei region of the Federated States of Micronesia is a popular tourist destination. It is known for its lush tropical rainforests, beaches, and stunning coral reefs. Visitors to Pohnpei can explore the Nan Madol ruins, an ancient city that was constructed between 1200 and 1500 A.D., or visit Liduduhniap Falls which cascade down a steep cliff face surrounded by a lush valley. Other scenic attractions include Sokehs Rock with its commanding view of the harbor and Kolonia Town's colorful marketplace.

Pohnepi's rich history includes Spanish colonization in 1734 and German rule from 1899-1914 followed by Japanese occupation during World War II. The island has strong cultural traditions such as traditional music called "pahkak" performed on bamboo flutes, drums and rattles made out of coconut shells; tasty local dishes like stewed taro leaves called "pwaiwais" cooked in banana leaves: and annual festivals like Fujukan during April featuring canoe races across Kapingamarangi Lagoon.
