Discover Belfort

 
Belfort is a city located in the eastern part of France in the Franche-Comte region. It is the capital of the Territoire de Belfort department and it has a population of around 50,000 people. The city was originally founded in 1777 due to its strategic position and was fortified by Vauban, who also designed its citadel.

Belfort is home to many historical buildings, including an impressive fortified citadel that dates back to Vauban's work in 1682. Other attractions include Notre Dame Church, Belfort Lion Monument, Belfroi Tower and Andre Maginot Museum. Visitors can also take advantage of several outdoor activities such as biking or hiking along Route des Monts d'Or or enjoy some water sports on Lac de Kruth-Wildenstein lake. The architecture of the old town center gives it a unique charm while its theaters and cinema add to cultural offerings available here.
