Besancon is a city located in the Franche-Comte region of Eastern France. Founded by the Romans in 58 BC, Besancon has a long and rich history as an important military post and fortification. This city is known for its stunning architecture, impressive fortifications, and beautiful landscapes.

The Citadel of Besancon is one of the main attractions to see in this city. Built between 1668-1740 this stunning fortress was designed by famous French military engineer Sebastien de Vauban and features impeccably preserved walls, moats, gates, towers and dungeons to explore.

Visitors will also enjoy exploring Old Town with its winding cobblestone alleys leading up to The Cathedral of St Jean which dates back to 1288 as well as checking out some of the many museums such as Musee des Beaux Arts or Musee d'Histoire Naturelle et Ethnographique.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities there are plenty of green spaces throughout the town like Parc Micaud or Jardin Botanique where you can relax or go for a wander along the banks of River Doubs.
