Discover Fougères

Fougeres is a beautiful and picturesque commune located in Brittany, France. It is steeped in history, with its medieval castle dominating the skyline atop the hill that overlooks the town. The cobbled streets of Fougeres are lined with charming timber-framed buildings, adding to its rich atmosphere and beauty.

One of Fougeres' most notable attractions is its medieval castle; it was built in the 11th century by Alan III, Duke of Brittany. The castle gives visitors an insight into what life was like during that period and there are guided tours which include tales told by professional actors dressed as characters from that era.

The St Leonard's Church also attracts many visitors; Built during the 15th century it stands proudly at one end of Place des Lices square - a popular spot for locals to enjoy meeting friends and family over lunch or dinner at one of many restaurants located around this area.

Finally, take time to wander through 'Le Sentier des Douaniers' (the customs officer's trail) which runs along the banks of river Couesnon - it's a delightful 3 km walk through woodland and meadows full of wildlife whilst enjoying stunning views along this peaceful trail.
