Bastia is a historic port city located in the French Mediterranean island of Corsica. It is the capital of Haute-Corse department and the second most populated commune in Corsica with a population of around 40,000. Bastia has a rich history with its origins dating back to the 8th century BC when it served as an ancient Greek trading post. The city's unique architecture and culture reflect its long and colorful past, where it was once ruled by several different countries over time including Italy, Genoa, France, Spain, Austria and Piedmont-Sardinia.

One of Bastia's main attractions is its Old Town (Vieille Ville). This area contains narrow cobbled alleyways lined with well-preserved medieval buildings giving visitors an insight into what life was like during those times. Its fortress walls offer spectacular views across the entire city skyline from atop Terra Nova hill. Another great attraction is Place Saint-Nicolas which provides lots of restaurants and shops to explore - perfect for any holidaymaker looking for new experiences! Finally, visitors should experience Cap Corse's stunning coastline with some beautiful coves and beaches that are great for sunbathing or swimming depending on the season!
