1 Av. du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, 75014 Paris, France

The Catacombs of Paris are an underground network of tunnels and galleries located beneath the streets of Paris. This remarkable site holds the remains of more than 6 million people who were exhumed from cemeteries in the city between 1786 and 1814. The walls are lined with carefully arranged piles of human skulls and bones that provide a captivating glimpse into Paris’ past. Visitors can wander through the long corridors, passing by centuries-old sculptures and stained glass windows while learning about interesting anecdotes related to each chamber. Notable attractions include a 13th century chapel dedicated to St. Agnes, which features stunning frescoes, and a vast ossuary containing millions of human bones alongside series of mosaics depicting scenes from medieval literature.

Plan your visit

When planning your visit to the Catacombs of Paris, make sure to plan ahead. Buy tickets online in advance and choose a preferred time slot for entry. Be aware that no bags, large backpacks or strollers are allowed in the catacombs and that photography is not permitted. Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking involved during your visit. Bring a bottle of water with you as it can get hot inside the catacombs. Make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before your ticketed entry time so you have enough time to check-in without rushing.
