Japanese Garden ~ 2 hours

Quai Henri Barbusse 44000 NANTES

This 1.7 hectare artificial island created in 1831, originally used by Naval tanners and carpenters, was turned into a Japanese style garden from 1983 onwards. The layout of the rockeries and water falls intertwine 3 Japanese inspired buildings.

The “Maison de l“Erdre” encloses a Zen garden and serves as avenue for river-life exhibitions.

Plan your visit

  1. Visit the Chateau des ducs de Bretagne, a 12th-century fortress located in the heart of Nantes. The castle is a great spot to learn about the region’s history and explore its beautiful courtyard and gardens.
  2. Explore Ile de Versailles, one of Nantes’ main tourist attractions with its picturesque lakeside park, gardens, green spaces and promenade along the Loire River.
  3. Take a boat ride on the Erdre River to appreciate all of Ile de Versailles’ beauty from another perspective!
  4. Check out Place Graslin which is home to many cafes, restaurants, shops and cinemas - perfect for some evening entertainment after exploring Ile de Versailles during daytime hours!
  5. Make sure to budget extra time if you plan on visiting any museums or other attractions while in Nantes as they tend to have long lines - it’s worth waiting for!.
