The Society Islands of French Polynesia are a beautiful archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean. Made up of several volcanic islands, these are some of the most stunningly gorgeous places on earth. The main island is Tahiti, which is home to gorgeous white-sand beaches and brilliant blue lagoons. Other popular tourist destinations include Bora Bora, Huahine and Raiatea.

Aside from its natural beauty, the Society Islands also have a long history that dates back to ancient times. In fact, it was here that Captain James Cook first made contact with Polynesian culture in 1769 on his voyage around the world. Today, visitors can explore archaeological sites such as Marae Taputapuatea on Raiatea Island or visit cultural centres like Fare Hape in Papara to learn more about this fascinating history.
