Ajara is a mountainous region located in the southwest of Georgia, and is bounded by Turkey and the Black Sea. The lush subtropical climate makes Ajaria one of Georgia's most visited tourist destinations. With its stunning beaches, ancient churches, and national parks, there are plenty of attractions to explore in this picturesque part of Georgia.

Two popular tourist attractions in Ajaria are Batumi Botanical Garden and Fortress Gonio-Apsaros. The Batumi Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden in all former Soviet Union countries and has thousands of exotic plants from around the world. Fortress Gonio-Apsaros was built around 1st century AD by Romans to protect it from enemy invasions, making it an interesting historical site with fascinating ruins to explore today.

An interesting historical fact about Ajara is that many centuries ago it was part of the Kingdom Colchis which birthed many Greek myths such as Jason's quest for the golden fleece depicted by Apollonius Rhodius in his epic poem Argonautica written between 295-235 BC.
