Visit Shida Kartli

Shida Kartli is a region in the eastern part of Georgia bordered by Russia and Azerbaijan. It is known for its spectacular landscapes, awe-inspiring historical monuments, and exciting cultural activities.

The region has two of Georgia's top tourist attractions: Gori Fortress and Uplistsikhe Caves. The ancient Gori Fortress was built in the 13th century to protect the city from enemies. It now serves as a beautiful museum showcasing artifacts from Georgian history like weapons, coins, jewelry, and pottery. The Uplistsikhe Caves are an archeological site with over 700 caves carved into the limestone cliffs for residential or religious purposes between the 6th century BC to 12th century AD.

In addition to its vibrant culture and stunning scenery, Shida Kartli also boasts an interesting historical fact - it was once home to one of Europe's largest Jewish communities before World War II when almost all of them were forced out by Stalin during his purges in 1941-42.
