Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a federal state located in northern Germany, on the Baltic Sea coast. It is bordered by
the states of Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony. The landscape of the region is incredibly diverse,
with extensive forests and rolling hills making up much of the terrain. Popular tourist destinations include Stralsund
Old Town-- which contains some of Germany's best preserved historic architecture-- as well as the islands of Rugen and Usedom.
The area is also home to many lighthouses, medieval churches and castles which provide glimpses into its rich history.
One interesting historical fact about Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is that it was one of the first regions to become part of Germany in 1815 following Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo.
