Thuringia is a state in the center of Germany, bordered by the states of Bavaria, Saxony, and Hesse. The region is known for its scenic landscapes and forests as well as its vibrant university towns. It has a rich cultural heritage that includes Baroque architecture, churches and castles throughout the region.

One popular tourist destination in Thuringia is Weimar, once home to famous poets Goethe and Schiller. Today it's full of museums, galleries and parks to explore when visiting this charming city. Another must-see spot while in Thuringia is Wartburg Castle which overlooks Eisenach from its hilltop location. Built in 1067 AD it was later restored by Ludwig II to become an inspiration for the 19th century romantic movement.

The Thuringian Forest also offers breathtaking scenery with meadows full of wildflowers and vast stretches of evergreen trees dotting the landscape here - a great place for hiking or cycling around some picturesque villages like Oberhof or Ilmenau where you can taste local delicacies like Thuringian dumplings made from potatoes & onions! A noteworthy historical fact about this region is it was actually one of 14 independent states at the time when Germany unified into one nation 150 years ago.
