Visit Eastern Region

Ghana's Eastern Region lies to the east of the country and borders Togo, Volta and Ashanti regions. It is known for its lush landscapes, diverse wildlife, vibrant culture and friendly people. Tourists can explore Akosombo Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Africa offering stunning views of Lake Volta. They can also go hiking in Waterfalls National Park which has several spectacular waterfalls such as Wli Falls that cascades from a height of over 80 meters.

The region has a rich history dating back to colonial times. In 1843 it was one of the first parts of Ghana to be colonized by Europeans when two German trading posts were established at Anomabu and Abandze respectively. One interesting historical fact about Eastern Region is that it was home to Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah who led the country to independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
