Epirus is a region in the northwest corner of Greece, bordered by Albania and the Ionian Sea. It is an area of wild beauty and great historical significance, boasting stunning mountain ranges and a wealth of ancient sites.

Rich in history and culture, Epirus has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Notable archaeological finds include the Necromanteion oracle site, which was used by oracles to connect humans with the gods. The Byzantine city of Ioannina is one of the main tourist attractions in Epirus, complete with ruins from successive civilizations and picturesque cobbled streets lined with souvenir shops and traditional Greek cafes.

For those seeking outdoor activities there are plenty to choose from; canoeing on Lake Pamvotida or hiking through one of many nature reserves are just two examples. Visitors can also explore traditional villages such as Zagorochoria, where visitors can sample local cuisine and experience traditional folk music festivals during summer months.

Epirus played an important role during World War II; it was part of Nazi occupied Greece for four years before being liberated in 1944 following an epic battle known as "The Epic Of Epirus". Today this conflict lives on through museums dedicated to its memory across the region.
