Visit Marie-Galante


Marie Galante is an island province of the Caribbean nation of Guadeloupe, located south of Basse-Terre and Grand Terre. With its lush green hills, picturesque towns and villages, vibrant culture and pristine beaches, Marie-Galante offers a peaceful day out for visitors looking to explore this beautiful region. Two places to visit on the island are The Pointe des Chateaux and Musee de la Canne a Sucre (the Sugar Museum). Pointe des Chateaux is a small promontory at the eastern end of Marie-Galante with spectacular views from its cliffs overlooking nearby islands. Musee de la Canne a Sucre provides visitors with a unique insight into the history behind Guadeloupe's sugar production industry that dates back to 1792 when slaves worked in hundreds of local plantations to cultivate sugar cane.

An interesting fact about Marie-Galante is that it was originally called "La Grande Galette," which means Big Pancake in French due to its flat shape resembling one!
