Popular tourist attractions include Playa El Amate, where visitors can swim and enjoy the sun, and Parque Municipal El Aguacate, a park full of lush vegetation. Escuintla also has an interesting history; it was once part of an ancient Maya kingdom that flourished between 100-250 AD. The city was also invaded by Pedro de Alvarado in 1523 as part of his conquest of Central America. Today, Escuintla remains a vibrant city with plenty to offer both locals and tourists alike.
