Visit Bafatá

The Bafata region or province of Guinea-Bissau lies in the center of the country and is bordered by Senegal to the north, Gabu to the east, Quinara to the west, and Oio to the south. Home to many historic sites such as Kansala National Park and Diarama Falls, this region boasts spectacular scenery with a variety of exotic wildlife including baboons, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles.

Kansala National Park is located along a mountainous escarpment where tourists can view an incredible array of animals from chimpanzees to pygmy hippos. The park also offers plenty of opportunities for bird watching due its vast array of wetland birds. Meanwhile Diarama Falls offers panoramic views over nature's beauty as well as great hiking trails that lead directly into it.

One interesting historical fact about Bafata is that it was once part of Portuguese Guinea before independence in 1974 when Guinea-Bissau became its own sovereign nation state. Bafata was then split into two during 2005 when Oio Province was established carved from its lands but it has since become one again in 2014 after Oio rejoined Bafata forming what stands today as Guinea-Bissau's second largest province.
