Visit Biombo Region

The Biombo region of Guinea-Bissau is a small but diverse province in the west of the country. It is bordered by Senegal to the north and Guinea to the east, offering its visitors amazing cultural experiences from both countries.

Biombo's capital city, Bissora, is home to one of Guinea-Bissau's most important historic sites - the Sao Domingos de Biombo Church. This 17th century Portuguese church offers a beautiful glimpse into colonial history mixed with local traditions. An interesting historical fact about this area is that it used to be part of neighbouring Senegal until 1974 when it was officially made part of Guinea-Bissau.

This region also hosts many beautiful beaches, making it a popular destination for tourists looking for some relaxation in nature while enjoying stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean. One must visit spot for beach goers is Principe Island where visitors can spend time snorkelling in crystal clear waters or enjoying some delicious seafood at one of its traditional restaurants corrals. Just off shore lies Bolama Island where visitors can explore an abandoned village and learn more about colonial history as well as local African traditions that shaped this place since ancient times.
